The Many Wonderful Uses Of Epsom Salt
Epsom salt is pretty much a staple in our household. It’s a simple way to boost your magnesium and has so many other great applications!
Epsom salt baths are so relaxing and anyone in the family can enjoy them! I let my kids soak in an Epsom salt bath while they play and it’s also my go to for my own relaxation at the end of a long day! I often do detox baths for the kids, especially if they are sick or coming down with something. Most of the time I just mix a 1/2 cup or so of Epsom salt with about a 1/4 cup of baking soda and sometimes put a drop of lavender or two. This is one of my favorite brands that I use all the time: Ancient Minerals Magnesium Flakes.
When I want a deeper detox, I use the same measurements and add in 1 tbsp or so of bentonite clay. The purpose of a detox bath is to rid your body of the toxins that we all accumulate daily from our environment, food, etc.
Another awesome use for Epsom salt is if you are breastfeeding and have a clogged milk duct. I use my Haakaa and you fill it with warm water and 1 tbsp of Epsom salt. It’s the craziest thing to witness but it literally draws out the clog - it almost looks like a lava lamp! If you have a painful clogged duct that feels like a bruise, you’ll want to do this maybe 3-4 times a day to avoid mastitis. I actually had a fever and felt mastitis coming on after my son was born and this method helped me clear it up without having to take antibiotics which I was happy to avoid since he was only 3 weeks old at the time.
